This mantle was designed and built for a brand new house on a lot in an older existing neighborhood of SE Portland. The homeowner had done a masterful job of blending their new home with the older original homes surrounding it. The interior of the house, while blending style with homes of a similar age, reflects current usage and taste. An example of this is the fireplace. The gas insert is a new feature combining function with environmental responsibility. The surrounding woodwork, mantle, and shelves reflect a bygone period. All the woodwork is in VG Fir. The legs of the mantle are tapered to compliment the columns used elsewhere in the room. With bookshelves on both sides, pre-planning was very important.
