This mantle we call the ‘Oregonian’ as it was featured in an article about mantle is the Oregonian newspaper. It looks simple now but this was another fun project with some interesting twists. This particular customer was moving from a 1940’s bungalow in NE Portland that was all vintage. Their new home was from the same period but had been remodeled in the 1970’s and had been “Modernized”, meaning that all the original woodwork, including the mantle piece, had been removed leaving the home devoid of any architectural interest. They wanted their old mantle put into their new house. We took a detailed plan from their old mantle and built a new version to fit the new house. What looks like flutes on the front of the legs are actually ribs made from half round moulding. Rounding the ends to look natural was one of the harder details. Being able to make the hard look easy is why we look forward to challenging projects. Bring us your most challenging expectations no matter what, we are ready.
