This is another Eastwood in paint grade that shows some design changes to handle specific problems in the surrounding room. There was a passage doorway very close to the right side of this mantle that greatly reduced the space available for the code required tile or brick surround and the leg of the mantle. To solve this problem our shop reduced the width of the legs from 8” to 6”, eliminated the side crown moulding and reduced the width of the top shelf. The side clearance on this mantle is almost zero. In addition, the sharp mitered corner of the top shelf was replaced with a 45 miter to reduce the risk of banging into a sharp point when passing through the doorway.
