If we were to put this mantle into a formal catalog we would probably call it the’Parthenon’. This project started with a very simple shelf mantle with an extended skirt (a short drop extending down below the crown that adds volume to the look). The customer then wanted to add fluted columns below to support this top shelf. For the fluted columns we could have used regular house columns but they would have been too wide and they taper at the top, a look that customer did not want. We found a wood moulding that was convex on its face side and came with flutes already in it. Then we just had to make the capitol and base for the columns and we have a mantle ready for your next Toga Party. We pride ourselves on finding reasonable solutions to what could be expensive problems.
